It was pretty dark when I took this picture of the hill going up from Omaha Beach. As I waked back up to the car, I tried to picture what it might have been like climbing this hill on D Day. I'll never forget walking up that hill as long as I live. Until that day, I had no concept of the sacrifice of hundreds of American soldiers to preserve our freedom.

moeymarc > The last few days of my trip to France, my dad and I left Paris by rental car and ventured to Normandy and Brittany to visit World War II monuments and various other cathedrals and sights.

This is the outside of the World War II museum in Caen. Anyone interested in D Day and WWII should see this museum. It is so thorough and very well done. I never imagined I'd be so moved by learning more about WWII and it's effects on the world. It was amazing to see the images of how a war damaged and changed the landscape of Normandy.
